My Debut Novel

Use By Date

A Fiction Novel

Not quite a rom-com.

The Fab Five have been friends for what seemed a lifetime. Wonder Women, Hope called them. That’s what they called each other, too. Hope was ground zero, bringing them together. So when The Code was cracked, and you could pay to get your Use By Date, they did it as a team. They got their date of death as besties. One prick of your finger and you know how long you’ve got left. Indeah had sorted it all out. Explained it to them. Sent them tickets. Made all the arrangements. Hope didn’t think much of it. We’re all healthy. Addison figured it would make a great documentary. And none had even contemplated pulling a short straw. Not one of them had thought it through: what happens if one of us is scheduled to die? Until Jem’s was. She drew the shortest of the five straws. Oh, but let's not get into the details yet. That’s what I’ve been asked to do: write the story of these Queens last four days together. They just want to slay it before Jem’s use by. Or as she called it - her impending expiration. Like a carton of milk, as Crickett would say. You’ll also meet Hope’s mum. Mom, if you’re Canadian or American. (Neither of which she is). She’ll teach you that we all have a use by date. It’s how you use it that counts.
